A new library exhibit features artifacts collected by Northfield Mount Hermon leaders in the Middle East more than a century ago.
Two display cases – one in our large main room, one in the classroom corridor – feature items collected by Frank Duley, NMH Class of 1893, while he was deputy consular general to the United States in Constantinople, and by school founder D.L. Moody during his visit to Jerusalem in 1892.
The artifacts include chain mail, camel saddle bags, a prayer rug, and an 1899 document signed by U.S. President William McKinley, appointing Duley to his consular post. Also included are a tiny Torah scroll no more than 2 inches high and a full-size scroll containing the Megillat Esther.
The exhibit was curated by Peter Weis, NMH archivist and Class of 1978, and by Rachel Huynh, Class of 2025.
